Hello all! My name's Thor II...I know, very unique but the name's just icing on the cake. I was the second robot built by Team 701 and I was built for a much different purpose than my preceding commrade, Thor.

In the year 2002, FIRST released the 11th annual game Zone Zeal. The game had a Red and a Blue Alliance with two teams each. Robots and Human Players had to get soccer balls into three octagonal, 185 lb, 5 ft high, movable goals. They also had to place goals in their scoring zone. Bonus points were given if a team's robot placed their robots back to the home zone.

My team that year was led by Kevin Mueller, Joe Kraft, Mari Pierce, Travis Johnson, and Brittany Hansen. After weeks of planning and designing, I was made.

I had a four-wheel drive, which was driven by two Drill motors and transmissions. I also had a "ball pickup wheel" which was driven directly by a CIM motor. I could sweep up balls on a track and they would fall into a holding basket.

The basket could be raised up and dump all the balls into the a goal. Very clever, eh? I also had two claws that could grab onto goals to move them to a scoring zone.

I would say that my best feature were my claws. They were controlled by 1.5" air cylinders and once they grabbed the goals, there was hope in letting go . But I must give credit to the great drive team and strategies that helped me on the field.

I attended two regionals that year. We did very well at the Silicon Valley Regional, we were finalists! We didn't have that much luck in Los Angeles as we didn't even make it to eliminations. But that's the way the ball rolls sometimes. I still had a great time representing my team and helping them do well overall.
