Hey! I'm Jotunn (pronounced YO-TUN, means giant in Nordic) and I am the youngest robot that Team 701 has constructed so far (even though I am the biggest ). I am known by the team as a larger version of my preceding bot, Puff. I am also the tallest robot on the team yet, and I can reach the hurdles with quite ease.

This year, FIRST released a game called FIRST Overdrive. The game features a field with two "overpasses" on each side. Two balls for each alliance are on top of the hurdles in random order at the start of a match. Along with Autonomous and Teleoperated Play, there is a new mode of play called Hybrid in which a remote control is used. The object of the game is to score points by racing around the track, hurdling the balls over the overpass, and knocking down opponent's balls off the overpass.

This year, I was the back-up plan for the team. They were orginally going to try constructing a "funnel-type" robot. That unfortunately did not fit with the rules constraints so the plan had to be dropped. After a successful prototype, I was made in a matter of weeks.

My best features are my height and "bowls". I am one of the tallest robots that Team 701 has ever made. I have a three-stage forklift which is partially the reason why I am so tall. My arms are long as well and at the end of those arms are two "bowl-like" holders (made out of carbon fiber) to help me clasp the ball and hold on to it. I also am driven by a 4-wheel system and have a low clearance. You could say I look like a forest-green pyramid with bright, gold bumpers .

I attended the San Diego Regional and was ranked 5th out of 48 teams. I formed my own alliance with 1338 and 980 and together we made it to the Quarter-Finals. For my first time on the field this season, I felt excited and happy that I could do so well. It can only get better from there ! I also attended the Davis-Sacramento Regional, soaring until the Quarter Finals. In Atlanta, we competed well on the Archimedes Field.

At Cal Games in October 2008, my autonomous won the Best Hybrid Award and we soared through Quarter-Finals and ended as Semi-Finalists.

I attended those competitions with my team: Adin Baumgarten, Thomas Baumgarten, Matthieu Cardinal, Ian Dickerson, Daniel Doriety, Ryan C., Briahna Workman, AJ Markovich, Lyndon Villaneuva, Rachael Molyneaux, Rodney, Tramell, Eric Smith, Ki-Tae Wolf, James Weaver, Anthony Stralla, Mike Sanchez, Elena Schweitzer, Kim Penamora, Sam Murphy, Priya Rangan, Lauren Brown, Sarah Stafford, Steven Sigley, Mary Cartwright, Jason Meier, Ian Dickerson, Aicel Ottele, Adam Weaver, Tim Trujio, and Danielle Salvador.
