Chairbot

An off-season project inspired by team 1678 at Davis in 2007, started by Michael Sanchez, Anthony Stralla, and Steven Sigley. Completed by Steven Sigley.

After witnessing a chairbot driving around, we wanted our own. Ideas were put together to install pneumatics to "rock the chair". Much work went into dismantling the current protobot, and many of the basic components were installed on the robot. The chair went into the shed at the beginning of 2008.

After the end of the 2008 season the chair was removed from the shed and work continued. It was taken home and finished in a garage. After it was completed, it turned out the pneumatics didn't work. So, it was used simply as a fun transportation device. Some late night runs down the middle of the street in the chairbot provided for much amusement.

The chairbot was then taken to Center Elementary for a demonstration and was shown off to the kids engaged in a small Lego program there. After major chain failures, a decision was made to dismantle chairbot so we could build a protobot for the 2009 season.

Chairbot was dismantled, and it's chassis recycled.

It was a fun project, but the largest drawback was the 2 year construction period.
